LAW ENFORCEMENT RELATIONSHIPS - Breaking Boundaries
Breaking Boundaries is a program under the umbrella of Jobs Partnership. This program focuses on community police relations inside the county jail in which police and inmates sit together and have an open dialog. During these dialogs the officers and inmates answer three questions a piece.
1. Tell us about yourself
2. How did you get to where you are today?
3. What advice do you have?
The objective to these questions is for the inmates and police to see each other as humans not as just police officers or criminals. These questions also give light to why each individual makes the choices they have, whether good or bad, and an opportunity for each participant to better explain themselves. Since the program has started, relationships have been formed with police and inmates that would have never occurred out in the streets.
These relationships further assist police and those incarcerated to have more positive outcomes in the communities where they live.
